Yes, the Knight-Capron Library is open to the public. 

Users who are not current University of Lynchburg students, faculty, or staff may apply for borrowing privileges.  See more information below.

As of March 2020, The Library does not provide dedicated guest-use computer terminals or guest printing privileges.  However, guests may use the University's guest wifi on their own devices (laptop, tablet, or smartphone).


Library Cards/Borrowing Privileges for Cooperative Borrowers

Current students, faculty, and staff of VIVA cooperative borrowing institutions are eligible for borrowing privileges. Cooperative borrowers must provide proof of current enrollment or employment. 

University of Lynchburg reserves the right to restrict cooperative borrowing privileges at any time.  


Borrowing Privileges for Community Members

  • Community members are granted Knight-Capron Library borrowing privileges only if their research needs cannot be met by their public library or their academic library, if enrolled at an institution.  
  • University of Lynchburg reserves the right to deny borrowing privileges to any or all applicants, and may rescind borrowing privileges at any time.
  • Applicants can request privileges by filling out a form at the Circulation Desk during regular operating hours, except after 10pm.  After 10pm, access is restricted to current University students, faculty, and staff with a valid University of Lynchburg identification card.
  • The Access Services team will review the application, and will contact applicants regarding their decision to grant or deny privileges.
  • Community users are not eligible for interlibrary loan privileges.
  • Community users may access the internet by connecting to the University's guest wifi on their own devices (laptop, tablet, or smartphone).  Guests do not need to have borrowing privileges to use guest wifi.
